TOTALLY NEW TO THE GAME? START HERE.
You do not need any of this to show up on a Saturday. But if you want to warm up first, these are the easiest on-ramps:
Scrabble, the official app (Scopely). Get the clean, classic version, not the cluttered "GO" one. Play against the computer to learn the board at your own pace. On Android → https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.omnody.scrabble . On iPhone, search "Scrabble" by Scopely in the App Store.
Woogles.io (free). Play real, timed Scrabble against actual people online, including relaxed Sunday games open to all levels. This is where a lot of club players practice. → https://woogles.io
NASPA (scrabbleplayers.org). The organization behind club and tournament Scrabble in North America. Use it to find clubs, tournaments, and the official word lists when you're ready to go deeper. → https://www.scrabbleplayers.org
Cross-Tables’ Cheat Sheet NWL23 (cross-tables.com). This is the single most useful document you can have for learning to play 2 and 3 letter, and other strategically useful types of words. We always have extra copies of this available, and will provide it for you! Any player who wants to use this resource during games is always permitted in our club. NWL23 is the word list that we work from. There are a couple of others in the world, that’s the one for North America → https://www.cross-tables.com/download/CHEAT_NWL23.pdf
